#SupportSally: Help a small Bills fan recover from leukemia

Buffalo Bills fans are a tight-knit bunch—there’s solace in numbers, I suppose—but their passion extends well beyond the boundaries of Western New York.
Matt Kabel, co-founder of NYC Bills Backers, has been a staunch ‘Bill’-iever—in a more impactful way than adding another voice to the chorus of “Hey-ay-ay-ays!” and doling out aggressive high-fives after a C.J. Spiller jaunt into the end zone.
Born in Orchard Park, Kabel was drawn to Fordham University for college but wanted an outlet to continue his devotion to the Bills—one that was largely absent in New York City.
Through his own event planning skills and collaboration with others, he’s helped draw over 2,100 members into the Bills Backers, who congregate with other expats in their Zubaz at McFadden’s and Calico Jack’s on 2nd Avenue in New York City to enjoy their hometown team on TV—even if it’s 371 miles away from Ralph Wilson Stadium.
While Kabel’s worked marvels for Bills fans in the Big Apple, he and his wife, Nicole, experienced an event that no parent wants to endure—his 10-month old daughter, Sally, was diagnosed with leukemia and has spent the last three weeks in a New York City hospital.
You can follow the well-written blog—Sweet Sally Sunshine—that details Sally’s trials and travails day-by-day—it alternates between heart-warming and heart-wrenching, as Sally’s status fluctuates.
To return the Bills-based support that Kabel has provided NYC, Western New York organizations are working together to help raise funds to aid Sally’s recovery from leukemia.
Store716, Trending Buffalo and a host of Buffalo bloggers have joined forces to create a #SupportSally t-shirt—you can purchase a shirt for $25 and help support the Kabel family here.
S.J. paid a visit to McFadden’s in October 2011 and snapped some photos. It’s a terrific atmosphere for uprooted Bills fans with a preference for a massive city, and it allows fervent Bills backers to band together. Return some love to Kabel by supporting him at a time of need.
