UB makes list of ‘Best Value Colleges for 2013’

The Princeton Review named University at Buffalo one of the ‘Best Value Colleges for 2013’ based on excellence in academics, financial aid and tuition costs.

The Western New York SUNY school is one of 75 public colleges and universities on the list released Tuesday. The Princeton Review ranked the 75 top private schools, too.

“College-bound students and their families are understandably scared about paying for college, but a lot of people never make it past the sticker price,” Robert Franek, senior vice president of the Princeton Review, told USA Today. “It’s such an avoidable mistake.”

To compile the elite list, the Princeton Review considered 650 schools, narrowing it down to the 150 (half public, half private) that present the best educational bang for students’ bucks.

UB, the Princeton Review notes, “is able to provide great education at a low price. And at a fraction of the cost of comparable private colleges and universities, a UB education is also an exceptional value.”

The average tuition rate for in-state students at UB is less than $6,000, and $16,000 per year for out-of-state students. Half of all students receive financial aid, leading to an average of $16,010 in student debt at graduation.
