University Heights Tool Library offers alternative for residents

blog by Kathryn Przybyla • September 27, 2012 @ 11:06am
In need of a weed whacker, but not interested in buying your own?
The University Heights Tool Library has solved that problem for residents who want to tackle home and community projects with borrowed supplies.
For an annual $10 fee, members can finally finish up their to-do list of painting rooms, sanding down doors and other projects with hammers, power tools and many additional items. Currently, the library has over 150 members and is free to join for students and veterans. This would be a great organization for UB students to get involved with, since many are residents of the University Heights area.
Businesses who are also interested in joining the Tool Library can join for an annual $100 fee.
According to the Tool Library,
Situated in North Buffalo and bordering UB’s South Campus, the highly walkable, diverse and affordable neighborhood of the University Heights is a dynamic and vibrant neighborhood that has seen incredible changes over its lifetime. The Tool Library’s mission is to facilitate grassroots reinvestment in neighborhoods such as these by empowering residents to affect the positive change they would like to see in their community.
The organization is always accepting donations from people who may have a few extra tools lying around the basement or garage. If you are interested in donating, feel free to contact the Tool Library for more information.
