Unyts in urgent need of blood donations

Blood and organ procurement organization Unyts is in desperate need of blood after a vehicle accident this morning left three dead and eight others injured.

In a statement released earlier today, Unyts announced an “increasing need for blood for the surviving victims of this tragedy.” The tragedy mentioned refers to the crash this morning that occurred near Silver Creek.

According to a Buffalo News article, a minivan packed with 10 people crashed into the back of a parked state Thruway Authority dump truck on the eastbound Thruway.

Three were killed, including a 1-month-old baby and two adults. The Buffalo News reports that at eight others were injured and transported to area hospitals.

Unyts supplies blood for local hospitals, including Kaleida Health, ECMC and all hospitals in Niagara and Wyoming Counties.

Unyts has set up donation centers throughout Western New York for today, Friday and Saturday. The locations and hours of operation are as follows:
