More than 70 snow plows and nearly 11,000 tons of salt are at the ready for Buffalo’s first big snow of the season.

Mayor Byron Brown, Department of Public Works Commissioner Steven Stepniak, and Street Cleaning and Snow Removal Director Henry Jackson gathered at the Department of Public Works Broadway Garage to inspect the snow-removal equipment and make some announcements about the upgraded plow fleet.

Manning the snow-removal equipment will be 67 truck drivers, equipment operators and heavy equipment operators. This year, the city added $1.1 million in new equipment, including five plows and three highlifts, according to a news release from the state.

“The GPS is up and running and the department is very happy to have the upgrade in the fleet with the new plows and highlifts.  This will give these pride driven employees more effective tools to handle the upcoming snow events,” said Jackson.
