Polar Plunge at Woodlawn Beach

by Sophie Herrman  •

The annual "Freezin for a Reason" Polar Plunge at Woodlawn Beach was held on Saturday to benefit Special Olympics. Plungers enjoyed an uncharacteristically beautiful day by tailgating, dancing, and eventually swimming in an ice cold lake in the middle of winter in Buffalo. Physically demanding as it may be, seasoned veterans of the event assured me that the combination of heavy drinking and swimming in cold water was "unlike anything else". Teams raised thousands of dollars for the charity, and the day went off without a hitch.
