Blondes tackle Brunettes in fourth annual powderpuff football game

It’s a showdown that’s been polarizing for generations, and it spans almost every activity imaginable: who’s better, blondes or brunettes?
In the fourth annual Blondes vs. Brunettes Powderpuff flag football game, the resilient but recently downtrodden blondes will try to break a two-year losing skid to Team Brunette. The game runs between 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday at Sweet Home High School, 1901 Sweet Home Rd., Buffalo, and tickets are free with a minimum $20 donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The match-up pits two teams of 35 women apiece—coached by recognizable names like Frank Rossi and Gene Tundo—in a spirited game on the Sweet Home field. After the game, the post-party will be held at Average Joe’s, 2350 Sweet Home Rd., a few blocks down the street from the high school. Counting all donations, BvB Buffalo has raised over $120,000 in its three years of existence.
The Brunettes have never lost in the fundraising football challenge, tying the Blondes in the first year and downing them the next two. While Team Blonde may be the underdog on the gridiron, they’ve raised more funds than the Brunettes so far this year. With the overall goal at $75,000, Team Blonde has accounted for $15,982 this year compared to $9,240 for the Brunettes. $64,142 is the total number of donations so far (counting sponsors, players and coaches), so the overall goal is within reach.
Blondes vs. Brunettes is a national event that began in Texas in 2005 as a means for founder Sara Allen Abbott to support research for Alzheimer’s Disease, an illness that struck close to their families.
