According to the Buffalo Hunters’ Facebook page, the professional ultimate frisbee team will relocate to Rochester for its second season. As the Rochester Dragons, the former Hunters team will join seven other expansion clubs in the rapidly growing American Ultimate Disc League.

We would like to officially announce that the Buffalo Hunters will be moving to Rochester. The Buffalo Hunters are looking forward to our new city, and identity. We are excited to help grow the sport of Ultimate as the Rochester Dragons! Check out our new Facebook page.. We hope that our loyal fans will join us at our new home.

While the experiment in Buffalo was admirable, there’s already an established club scene in Rochester, an area where the Queen City lagged badly behind. Hunters’ player-coach Sean Donnellan, a Rochester native, has roots in the 585 area code after coaching the All-Rochester Ultimate club team, and the 20 high school teams in Rochester will serve as a strong feeder system.

The Hunters finished 3-13 in their inaugural season in the AUDL, missing the playoffs. The team played at the Orchard Park Sports Complex after failing to secure a field at UB North’s Walter Kunz Stadium.

Head coach Donnellan has yet to return a text message sent this morning. The post will be updated as more information becomes available.
