Canisius hockey: Dan is the Man

A puck getting past Morrison? Don't see that too often.

When you take down the king, you get to wear the crown. And for at least one week, senior netminder Dan Morrison is officially the head goaltender in charge of Atlantic Hockey.

After leading Canisius to a win over perennial league power RIT, Morrison was honored with Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week accolades.

Morrison anchored the Canisius defense to a 3-1 win against the defending Atlantic Hockey champion Tigers on Thursday, recording 33 saves in the win. The senior goalie held the visitors off the scoreboard for the final 55:31 as the Griffs earned their first win over RIT since the 2007-08 campaign, ending an eight-game losing streak in the series.

The weekly honor is the fifth for Morrison during his career. In 79 career contests, the London, Ontario native has posted a .905 save percentage and 3.30 goals against average while amassing 2,369 saves, the third-most in the program’s history.

Morrison and the Griffs return to the ice on Saturday, playing at 2010-2011 Atlantic Hockey tourney champ Air Force. Game time is scheduled for 9:05 p.m. ET.
