Canisius men’s baseball blows chance for MAAC Championship, tries again today

blog by Ben Tsujimoto  •

The Canisius Griffins men’s baseball team was in the driver’s seat in Saturday’s MAAC Championship, leading 4-1 in the eighth inning over Manhattan before a late meltdown forced a do-or-die scenario today. Manhattan won 5-4 in 10 innings on a walk-off single by Brendan Slattery.

The Griffs earn another chance against the Jaspers today at noon in Troy, NY, as the double-elimination format allows head coach Mike McRae’s team to regroup. There’s free audio at GoGriffs.com and pay-per-view video at MAAC.TV.

Canisius had won six in a row entering the contest and looked poised to duplicate the feat of the men’s lacrosse program of reaching the prestigious NCAA Tournament. It’s already been a miraculous spring for Canisius Griffin sports, but a men’s baseball win today would make it even more historic.
