Griffs hockey fights the Purple Eagles to a draw

The Canisius hockey team fought hard, but was only able to bring Niagara to a 1-1 draw Tuesday night in Lewiston. In Atlantic Hockey play, Canisius is currently 2-5-2 on the season while Niagara is 2-4-3 and 1-2-2 against league foes.

It was a physical game with incredible goaltending and strong defense on both sides, but neither team could find the offensive strategy to break the other. Canisius freshman Matt Grazen (East Amherst, NY) chipped a pass to Torrey Lindsay (Grosse Isle, Manitoba) to open up scoring with a short-handed goal at 1:52.

Less than three minutes later, Giancarlo Luorio answered for the Purple Eagles with a goal on their second power-play of the night to tie it up 1-1. Canisius could not convert on five power-play opportunities following the tie and Griffs’ goaltender Dan Morrison (London, Ontario) stopped 32-of-33 shots for the night.

The Griffs will be playing a couple of games at home against nationally ranked Lake Superior State. This two game series begins on Saturday with game time at the Buffalo State Sports Arena scheduled for 12:35 p.m. against the 12th-ranked Lakers.
