HockeyMob planned to help downtown bars

blog by S.J. Velasquez  •

Help local bars recover from the economic punch to the gut caused by the NHL lockout at the first HockeyMob set for Jan. 31.

Similar to the Buffalo Cash Mob model developed by Western New York blogger Chris Smith, the HockeyMob will help ignite some cash flow for local businesses—downtown bars, to be precise.

With no Sabres games happening, downtown’s bars and pubs have suffered from a severe lack of business. To help them recover some of that lost income, Trending Buffalo is organizing “mobs” at two of the hardest hit bars, Irish Times and Washington Square, where locals will meet to watch the game and spend some dollars.

The Sabres will take on the Bruins at 7 p.m., but participants are encouraged to arrive early to get a head start on spending. According to the event invitation, potential attendees should RSVP so organizers can get a rough estimate beforehand.
