In the classic Simpsons episode ‘Homer at the Bat,’ Homer Simpson drives home the winning run in a company softball game by taking a pitch for the team—a fastball right to his bald, yellow coconut.
The Canisius Golden Griffins earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title in similar fashion on Sunday—Jose Torralba gave the Griffs a 12-11 win over Siena in Trenton, N.J. when he was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to drive home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
“Getting hit with that pitch never felt better,” Torralba told The Buffalo News.
Canisius—which set school and conference records with 42 wins this season—will now advance to the NCAA tournament. The Griffs will find out who they are slated to face later today.
