Pummel the Pats? Part II

Remember that feeling that Bills’ fans felt on Sept. 25 after the 34-31 win over New England? To me, it seems like half the fan-base had a dumbstruck, “did this really just happen?” reaction to Buffalo’s snap of a 15-game losing streak to the detested Patriots. Others were a little more audible—shrieks of elation were heard throughout the Buffalo Niagara area (and abroad, I’m looking at you, expats)—but none were louder than the deafening chorus of “Hey-hey-hey-hey!” from Ralph Wilson Stadium.

The above video still gives me shivers, and it wasn’t even in Buffalo. Nicely done, Windy City.

The picture is considerably different now that the Bills are 6-9 instead of 3-0. Injury woes, an inconsistent Ryan Fitzpatrick and a vulnerable secondary sent Buffalo on a seven-game skid, but now that the playoffs won’t be a reality, it’s time to focus on the small battles—and not losing to better draft position!

For instance, the Bills haven’t swept the two regular season games against the Patriots since 1999, also the last time Buffalo made the playoffs. Unfortunately for Chan Gailey’s squad, Tom Brady’s left shoulder won’t keep him out of the lineup Sunday, as he was actually able to take reps in practice today.

Named to his seventh Pro Bowl earlier this week, Brady was picked off four times—tying a career-high (low?)—against the Bills in the first outing, but “Tom Terrific” has led the Pats to seven straight wins and a chance to lock up home field advantage throughout the playoffs with a win Sunday

But wouldn’t it be sweet if the Bills swept? The game (finally) will be televised at 1 p.m. Sunday on CBS.
