Run with the Snowy Buffalos

blog by S.J. Velasquez • January 02, 2013 @ 9:40am
Slap on the spandex pants and wind-resistant jacket for a leisurely winter run tonight.
Starting today and continuing through March, Fleet Feet will sponsor free weekly winter jaunts for runners of all levels. The group runs begin at 6 p.m. at the store, located 2290 Delaware Ave.
Jogging in below-freezing temperatures may not appeal to everyone, but Fleet Feet marketing associate Katie Tryjankowski said that these winter runs are generally more popular than summer runs, sometimes drawing as many as 70 runners to the snowy streets.
“It’s a lot of fun, and everybody’s welcome,” Tryjankowski said. “A lot of people are concerned to run with a group because they think they’re too slow, but we definitely have people from our beginner program who are run-walking.”
Tryjankowski also said that those runners who are new or scared often find a group with with to run. And if they’re still not sure where they fit, the group leader runs with them.
Aside from getting in a little cold-weather exercise, participating in Snowy Buffalos has a few other perks. Regular runners can earn T-shirts and store discounts, and anyone who completes a race wearing a Snowy Buffalos T-shirt is entered in a big prize drawing in March.
Also, Snowy Buffalos also offers a monthly pub run. Tryjankowski explained that nearby pubs will sponsor runs, which will end in a little post-jog eating, drinking and socializing. These events will also feature giveaways and drawings.
