Support FC Buffalo, maybe watch mascots brawl

blog by Ben Tsujimoto  •

If you’ve witnessed the Situation Room and the growing number of FC Buffalo fans at All-High Stadium, it’s obvious the passion for soccer in Buffalo is alive and well. Toss in more alcohol and feisty mascots, and Saturday night’s team fundraiser at Purple Monkey, 236 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, should be a circus.

For $25 at the door, FC Buffalo fans and supporters can capitalize on all-you-can-drink beer from 6 to 10 p.m. as well as plentiful snacks. If you’re the designated driver, not of legal drinking age or simply thrilled with the idea of pop and snacks, the cost is only $15.

There’s a good chance the night will feature a brawl between the Purple Monkey mascot and FC Buffalo’s wolf, a bout that—on the surface, at least—heavily favors the local NPSL side’s furry demon.

Through its Twitter account, the Blitzers have announced a few of the raffle prizes for Saturday: tickets to the UB Bulls vs. Kent State football game on Wednesday, Rochester Rhinos season tickets, a signed Rhinos jersey of former FC Buffalo stalwart Kendell McFayden, Rhinos apparel and more.

The Blitzers, a semi-professional soccer team in Buffalo, competes in the National Premier Soccer League, the fourth rung of the unbelievably convoluted U.S. Soccer ladder. FC Buffalo closed the 2012 campaign with a record of one win, seven losses and four ties, narrowly missing the postseason on the season’s final weekend.

Also, without fail, this video makes me laugh:
