The scabs: A local Twitter reaction

blog by Ben Tsujimoto  •

I wasn’t intending to stay up to watch the conclusion of the Packers vs. Seahawks Monday Night Football game, but the drama and hilarity of the nationally-televised game was too much to avoid. The replacement officials, filling in for the professional referees on strike, sent football fans into an uproar after the conclusion of the Seahawks’ 14-12 upset of Green Bay. Here’s video of the ending, courtesy of YouTube user LesaneJones1:

Needless to say, the officials—deemed “scabs” because of their replacement nature—and the NFL as a whole have been taken a beating this morning across TV and social media outlets. Buffalo’s sports media isn’t blind either, and here are many of their responses—some of them downright hysterical—to last night’s fiasco.

The next two tweets are a little more sympathetic to the referees’ plight.

Richard Deitsch may be a national sportswriter for Sports Illustrated, but he’s also a University at Buffalo grad and lover of all things 716.

This one below was simply too funny to not include.
