You know who Tim Tebow is, right?

This past week’s Saturday Night Live skit centered around Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, perhaps the most polarizing figure in sports this year. Actor/comedian Jason Sudeikis plays the role of Jesus in the Broncos locker room, calming down an overzealous Tebow, taking credit for the AFC West leader’s success, and startlingly revealing his commitment to Denver kicker Matt Prater. While televangelist Pat Robertson freaked out about the skit’s anti-Christian message, the video has accrued over one million views on NBC’s website.
Robertson supported his criticism, saying: “If this had been a Muslim country and they had done that, and had Muhammad doing that stuff, you would have found bombs being thrown off ... and bodies in the street. And we think it’s OK.”
Tebow is beloved by many for his sincerity, enthusiasm, fourth quarter heroics and devotion to his religion, while his detractors consider him a phony, overrated as a football player and too over-the-top in his religious fervor.
The Broncos will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Ralph Wilson Stadium against the humbled Buffalo Bills. Chan Gailey’s club, at 5-9, has lost seven straight, while Denver has won six of its last seven games behind Tebow’s heroics. Does anyone care about how the Bills fare the rest of the season? Not really, unless you’re a draft position nut like I am. Truly, Saturday is about Tim Tebow.
