Canisius plucks Purple Eagles, 71-65 - PHOTOS

The Gallagher Center at Niagara University was packed as the Canisius Golden Griffins pulled out a victory over the plucky Niagara Purple Eagles 71-65.

Antoine Mason, the nation’s leading scorer, was held to 17 points while Billy Baron, going into the night as the nation’s fifth-leading scorer, doubled that with his 34 for the Griffs.

Griffin Chris Perez was all over Mason while coming away with 17 points for himself. Jordan Health played tough under the basket for Canisius while Marcus Ware and Wesley Myers were factors for Niagara’s Purple Eagles. Myers is fun to watch, he’s like a little guy with an attitude and can shoot from outside or going to the rim.

We’re really lucky here in Western New York to have the college hoops we enjoy, and this Canisius versus Niagara battle is tough no matter what the sport. The Canisius fans were out-numbered but not out-noised! All in all, a good win for the Griffins and tough loss for the Eagles.
