Canisius Golden Griffs defeat the Iona Gaels - PHOTOS

by Cody Osborne  •

The Canisius Golden Griffs hosted the Iona Gaels on Saturday night at the Koessler Athletic Center and again it went down to the wire. This was an important game for both teams and they both played like it was too. The first half was quite an entertaining half of college basketball.

Both teams went back and forth trading baskets until Iona went on a little run. After the run was over, it was time for Baron and the boys to go on their own little run. The score was close going into halftime which one could say was a prelude for the rest of the game.

Canisius came out of the locker room fired up and prepared for their task at hand. It went down to the last minute just like most of the Golden Griffin's recent games and in the end it was them who came out on top. The team was led all night by guard Billy Baron and his 23 points, five rebounds, six assists and one steal.

Canisius is now 15-8 overall and 8-4 within the MAAC, which puts them right near the top behind Loyola and Niagara. Their next game is an away game Thursday night against Manhattan (6-15 overall) at 7:00 p.m.
