Nestled among the storage elevators of St. Mary’s Cement and the General Mills grain elevators and mills on Ganson Street, the seventh annual version of the Labatt Blue Hockey Tournament is underway.
This really is a Buffalo hockey tournament, as on this day alone, the weather was everything from pouring rain to gusty winds, huge wet snowflakes, sleet and whistling winds.
The two refrigerated rinks—which were each separated into thirds for small-sided hockey—were quickly brought together by Labatt and Buffalo RiverWorks.
Your chest really does have to swell a bit when you know that Buffalonians play through these adverse conditions. It is real hockey, just for fun, in a Buffalo winter.
