Niagara Purple Eagles swoop past Canisius 4-2 - PHOTOS

by Don Nieman  •

It was hockey weather outside, the snow crunched beneath each step while approaching the hockey arena at Buffalo State where the Niagara Purple Eagles were victorious in a hard-fought battle with cross-city rivals, the Canisius Golden Griffins. It was a true Battle of the Bridge.

Canisius led 2-1 entering the third period, but the Purple Eagles scored three in the final frame to win the contest.

Sam Alfieri had two on the night, one in the third that tied the game. Niagara’s Matt Chiarantano scored the game-winner and Patrick Divjak scored the last goal on an empty net. Both goalies, Adrian Ignagni for Niagara and Tony Capobianco played tough in the nets. When these two teams meet it is like a playoff game. Fun hockey, great to watch.
