Crowds gathered at the Rainbow Rink in North Tonawanda on Saturday night for a double-header of the Queen City Roller Girls!
The first bout was the season opener for Western New York’s travel team, Lake Effect Furies, as they welcomed Westchester County’s Suburbia.
After a successful season last year making the WFTDA Division 2 playoffs, the Lake Effect Furies enter this season ranked No. 48 worldwide. Suburbia also made the playoffs and entered the season at No. 58, making for a very competitive bout.
Despite a great run towards the end for the Lake Effect Furies, Suburbia came out on top with a 222-192 victory.
Between bouts, 6 lucky fans were able to participate in a tricycle race for future QCRG tickets.
The second bout featured two of the four home teams, the Devil Dollies against the Alley Kats. After both teams lost their first match of the season, they were both very hungry for their first win. There were many lead changes throughout the game but the Devil Dollies were able to pull out a win with the final of 195-151.
Portions of tonight’s proceeds went toward Girls On The Run, which is a character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Also in attendance were members of PTSD Survivors of America, who work to support survivors and promote awareness of all forms of post-traumatic stress disorder regardless of trauma causation.
