Freezer 5K in Cobblestone District - PHOTOS

by Don Nieman  •

The temperature hovered around 20 degrees, the day before 9 inches of snow had fallen and was continuing to fall on the city streets as hundreds of fit and robust souls gathered for the annual Freezer 5K run presented by Heart Rate Up.

The high lifts were still removing piles of snow as the runners gathered on Perry Street for the start of their run through the Cobblestone District.

Due to the snow around the Marina, the course required last-minute modification to exclude that part of the course, and the runners adjusted. The gun sounded and they were off, slipping and sliding on the greasy surface—it was like running in loose sand only colder and more slippery. They all ended up at Buffalo Iron Works, where refreshment was served and prizes awarded.
