Holy Tiahana: Mills buzzer-beater tops SportsCenter’s Top 10 - VIDEO
Canisius freshman guard Tiahana Mills not only beat the Siena Saints with her half-court, buzzer-beating three, but she earned the No. 1 play on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays.
After Siena’s Kanika Cummings tied the game with a driving lay-up with three seconds left, Canisius didn’t have time to get the ball in the hands of its most reliable three-point shooters, Jen Morabito and Ashley Durham.
Instead, the 5’3 freshman point guard Mills took the inbounds pass, sped up the floor before using a quick crossover to hoist her prayer near mid-court. The bank was open, and Mills topped any Elton Frazier dunk by crowning the Top 10 Plays segment on Friday night.
The Griffins won the Kids’ Day tilt 65-62, and the buzzer-beater was Mills’ lone trifecta of the morning. Her balanced line of 12 points, six rebounds and six assists kept Terry Zeh’s team alive throughout, and even though Mills had hit only 6-of-22 threes before her game-winner, the freshman from Binghamton wasn’t bashful.
Also noteworthy: Canisius women’s basketball announcer Mike Scott made the headlines on Awful Announcing by turning to a WWF catchphrase for his call of “OH, YOU DIDN’T KNOW? YOU’D BETTER CALL SOMEBODY!”
I bet he’s been saving that one in his back pocket for a long time.
