Would-be NYC marathoner races for a cause in Buffalo - VIDEO

Would-be New York City Marathon runner Julia Burke didn't want Superstorm Sandy to ruin her run, but she also felt like she should be doing something to help those devastated by the natural disaster.

Before the race was canceled, Burke decided she'd skip the trip to New York and instead run right here in Buffalo. All the money she would have spent on the race she would donate to the
American Red Cross, The Buffalo News reported.

“Think of the people affected by the hurricane. If they have it in their hearts or wallets, if anyone wants to join me, it’s going to be a fun day,” 26-year-old Burke told the paper. “It’s a nice, healthy way to show them Buffalo is behind them.”

Today, Burke completed 15 laps around Delaware Park -- that ends up being approximately one mile longer than a traditional marathon. Upon reaching the finish line, Burke gave a heartfelt impromptu speech to supporters gathered around her.
