Pandamonium

There is no denying that Buffalo has developed a serious fashion presence as of late. We have covered a large amount of style-centered events including Buffalo Fashion Week and Mass Appeal, but this week brings us another showcase of local design talent. Pandamonium will kick off with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at the Buffalo Museum of Science.

Five designers will…

Ask Avery: Be fashionable in flannel

Dear Avery,
I love flannel shirts and would really like to wear them now that the weather is getting chillier. My problem is that I feel like a lumberjack every time I put one on with a pair of jeans. How can I wear my flannels without being asked if I’m about to head off to the forest?

I, too, love flannel shirts. They’re warm, comfortable and can be worn all winter long. But…

Over a Pint Interview Series: Fashion Designer Molly Hoeltke

blog by Ben Kirst  •   •

Molly Hoeltke (center) is making an impact on local fashion.

Molly Hoeltke has some serious stones.  If you went to Mass Appeal in November, Hoeltke was the designer who sent a string of models down the runway decked out in a series of edgy vintage and native-inspired designs—including, memorably, a model sporting a five-point rack of antlers.  Even at a fashion event like Mass Appeal, where the bizarre is not exactly a big deal, Hoeltke…

Jessica White in the Victoria's Secret Fashion show

In honor of tonight’s television spectacular, the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, we looked into just who these goddess-like angels are—and we found a Buffalonian. Jessica White was born in Buffalo and was first scouted here at the age of 16 in 2000. That same year, she signed a contract with CoverGirl and went on to model for Harper’s Bazaar and Gap in 2001.

She would go on to…

I have never been one to wake up and join the crowds of crazy people who shop on Black Friday.  Being out of town for the holiday, I’ve found comfort in knowing that while 226 million people may have packed stores on the day after Thanksgiving, I will be one of the 120 million who will choose to do their shopping online today. Not a fan of online shopping? At least browse through…

Black Friday Boutique Crawl on Elmwood

gallery by Megan Palizay  •   •

Although the day started quietly, Elmwood Avenue heated up with Black Friday shoppers as the day progressed. Boutiques such as Urban Threads, Made by Anatomy and others offered major discounts for those looking to support local businesses instead of Target and Wal-mart. What kind of jewels did the shoppers find in the city's most popular shopping district?

Moms, don’t try dressing like your daughters

So you have a bangin' body? That doesn't mean you can wear your teen daughter's Forever 21 crop top.

And for everyone hitting the malls and shopping plazas, here are some tips on what to wear and -- maybe more importantly -- what NOT to wear.

Mass Appeal nails it as the fashion event of the year

Mass Appeal 2011

I’ve been in a long-term and committed relationship with fashion for as long as I can remember. There are few things I find more thrilling than attending a showroom opening for a new collection in New York City (last summer) or receiving my latest issue of Vogue (yesterday) via snail mail. So when I got the chance to cover the Mass Appeal fashion event hosted by the Elmwood Village…

Mass Appeal on Elmwood Village

Mass Appeal, held by The Elmwood Village Association, is considered Buffalo's version of New York City Fashion Week. Local designers as well as Elmwood Village store owners present their creations on the catwalk. Held in the gorgeous Lafayette Presbyterian Church, it is the place to see and be seen.
