It’s no secret that the Elmwood area is the place to be when it comes to budding…

Ask Avery: Put a lid on it

Dear Avery,
What does your go-to outfit consist of for the weekend, for class and for night time (aka PARTAY TIME!!)?

My go-to outfit doesn’t actually vary much from day to night. If I’m in a rush to get to class but still want to look stylish, I usually throw on a pair of dark blue or black skinny jeans, a white v-neck t-shirt, black Converse sneakers, and one of my…

A Classy Lady’s Top 10: Nov. 10, 2011

blog by Sophia Smith  •   •

My goodness.

1. Wolford fishnet thigh-high stockings…the height of beauty and elegance.  Marlene Dietrich rocked them in the 20’s, and Madonna and Gaga sport them!  Classically beautiful and avant-garde at the same time—don’t leave home without them!

2.  Getting all my wine delivered from City Wine Merchant…no more schlepping cases in high heels!  Now I can kef in bed, and order wine…

Including delicacies from nearby Swirls Cupcakery, a red carpet photo booth and an opportunity to shop for 15% off after the show, Ooo La La's local designer fashion show packed the small boutique with stylish energy. Three local designers promoted their fall and winter collections, and owner Crista Botticello oversaw the proceedings. Buffalo.com photographer Nate Benson snapped…

Ask Avery: Be a trailblazer

blog by Avery Hartmans  •   •

Toss some elbow patches on there and you're on your way to a job at Sarah Lawrence.

Dear Avery: I have a really great brown suede blazer that I’ve never worn. I’m always tempted to try to pair it with jeans or something so I can wear it to class, but I don’t know how to put it together and not have it look too business-y. Any suggestions?

A great piece like that should be worn often, not hidden in the back of your closet, so try it on with everything from skirts…

Fashion frenzy in East Aurora

blog by Ben Tsujimoto  •   •

The dreaded North Face season approaches.  You’re already aware of what you’ll see—teenage girls strolling the streets in black, brown, pink or gray jackets, defending their attire with cheesy “but they’re so warm and sleek!” lines.  For each North Face jacket purchased, one ambitious local designer sheds a massive, watery tear—I’m really just kidding, but hey, we’re “all in” on…

Rocking the Ruff: Elizabeth I was indeed a classy lady, as well.

3.) High, high, HIGH Prada heels.

4.) Lollygagging.  (Anywhere, but mostly in bed with the Sunday New York Times).

5.) François Ozon’s thrilling Swimming Pool.  One of my top10 favorite films ever!

blog by Avery Hartmans  •   •

This could be you, ladies! Or guys, I suppose.

If you’re like me and Halloween snuck up on you this year, you might be scrambling for a last-minute costume. Sure, you can always go out and buy one of those pre-assembled, mass-produced get-ups from Party City, but where’s the fun in that? Here are a few costumes you can throw together with items you might already have in your closet.

Audrey Hepburn from “Breakfast at…
