Beauty Queen

After a summer of breaking into a sweat anytime you tried to put makeup on, resulting in a pretty minimalist look, you’re probably ready to jump start your beauty routine and try some new things now that the cooler weather is on its way.
Lucky for you, this fall offers tons of new beauty trends. When it comes to makeup, fall is an opportunity to experiment with different products and styles. No one wants to pile on the makeup on a scorching July day, but a cool evening in October is an excellent time to test out fall’s more daring looks.
Look #1 – the new cat eye
While cat eye makeup (eyeliner that extends out from the eye and upward, giving the eye a distinctly feline look) has been a classic, popular look for decades, this fall it gets a modern update. Instead of a thin, sharp line drawn on the upper lid with black liquid eyeliner, the new cat eye is drawn around the whole eye with kohl liner in black or dark brown, creating a smudged, smoky look. Model Jourdan Dunn modeled the look to perfection in the fall Burberry campaign.
Look #2 – blue eye shadow
I don’t think anyone thought blue eye shadow would make a comeback anytime soon but lo and behold, here it is. But instead of matte blue shadow up to the eyebrows like an 80s jazzerciser, today’s blue shadow is metallic and shimmery and makes the wearer look like a fairy. Vanessa Hudgens pulled off baby blue shadow like a pro, adding a paler, more metallic shade under her eyes then lining her entire eye with a thin black line. While this is a lot of makeup to wear on a daily basis, blue eye shadow could become part of your go-to night out look.
Look #3 – lip stain instead of lipstick
For me, anyway, lipstick seems like something only serious ladies wear. But every once in a while, I want to add some color to my lips without looking too formal or older than I am. Enter the genius creation that is lip stain, a liquid stain that goes on like a lip gloss but is neither thick nor shiny – it just looks like your lips have changed color. Lip stain comes in a variety of shades and can add some oomph to an otherwise simple look, like Alexis Bledel’s. And the best part is that lip stain stays on for hours (trust me, I put it on to test it out and was unable to get it completely off) without getting on your teeth or the rim of your glass.
