Fall 2011 denim guide

Although it’s still July, fall fashion is already upon us. After only a few short months, the fashion world is encouraging us to put away our shorts and tank tops and squeeze back into sweaters and jeans. And while this fall is all about denim, your trusty skinny jeans might be spending more time in your closet than usual.
Skinny jeans have become a wardrobe staple over the last few seasons and aren’t declining in popularity anytime soon. But this fall, the silhouette has changed – it’s time to say goodbye to skinny and hello to baggy.
Models on the runway at Chloe and Alexander Wang rocked loose-fitting, relaxed jeans in true blue and washed-out gray. These jeans were worn with anything from a tucked-in shirt and belt to a long, loose-fitting sweater, showing that they can be just as versatile as your skin-tight skinnys.

The denim or chambray shirt is still in for fall and was shown at Chloe under a solid black suit. This shirt can also be paired with jeans of a different shade of blue for a twist on the “Canadian Tuxedo.”

A fall trend that has resurfaced from a few years ago is colored jeans. Shown in colors such as bright red, Kelly green, watermelon, and rosy pink, these colorful pants are back for another season. But this trend is best left to the younger generation – a 35-year-old in bright purple jeans isn’t a pretty sight.

Another denim trend making a comeback for fall is the bell bottom. Jeans with a flared leg are incredibly popular, so hopefully your mother hung onto her jeans from the 70s. Bell bottoms with a high waist paired with a tucked-in shirt and some wedges can be your uniform for the cooler months.
