Babeville is packing the house with an interesting collection of talent so far this year.

Tall Firs, made up of Dave Mies and Aaron Mullan will be playing at 8 p.m. on Tuesday alongside Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeff Mangum and Briars of North America at Asbury Hall. Check out the Babeville website for details.

According to their website, “they literally taught each other how to play guitar, wood-shedding shoulder to shoulder. The first complete tune they could ever play start to finish was the Circle Jerks’ ‘Beat Me Senseless’; soon afterward they took on Mississippi John Hurt’s ‘Payday’. Today they continue to refine a creole guitar language that is pretty much a two-man weave between those same disparate destinations.”

A laid-back look, Tall Firs takes rock simplicity to the next level with your everyday pair of jeans, flannel or graphic t-shirt.

Formed in 1989 and still going strong, Freakwater is made up of Catherine Ann Irwin and Janet Beveridge Bean among an array of other artists who have joined the group through the years.

Their take on alternative country gives them an incredibly soulful and unique sound that is unlike no other. According to Babeville, “The duo signed to Thrill Jockey in 1993 for the seminal Feels Like the Third Time, reissued on vinyl for Record Store Day 2012.”

Dressed in bohemian-chic, Freakwater is an eclectic group wo’s wardrobe is as interesting as the songs they produce.
