Get the look: Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds

blog by Kathryn Przybyla • November 12, 2012 @ 10:06am
With influences from big artists like Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, The Band, Otis Redding, Parliament and Bonnie Raitt, it’s clear that Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds have an eclectic sound, not to mention look.
Lead by front-woman, Arleigh Kincheloe, the group is more of a family of musicians then anything else, with a nine-piece band. A carefree and soulful sound plays well with their similar style. Statement pieces and pops of color are common with Sister Sparrow herself, not to mention her accompaniment of Dirty Birds.
Complete with tailored jackets over vests and plaid shirts, the rest of the group epitomizes the Brooklyn look with Mad Men inspired glasses to complete their image.
According to their bio, “Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds is a nine-piece powerhouse that puts a modern spin on classic soul. The band is led by Arleigh Kincheloe (Sister Sparrow), whose astoundingly powerful voice and sly demeanor make for a spellbinding presence onstage. She is backed by the mighty force of The Dirty Birds, a flock of eight men who masterfully lay down thundering grooves and soaring melodies.”
You can catch Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Town Ballroom. Tickets are on sale for $12 pre-sale or $15 the day of show and can be purchased through Tickets.com. For more information on the show, head over to the Town Ballroom’s website.
