As Western New Yorkers, we get all excited when someone from the area makes it big. Well, everyone, start spreading the news: Grand Island-born Stacy Clark is talented, stylish, and her music is being featured in hit television shows on many of the major networks.
Flip on any TV drama these days and there’s a good chance you’ll hear one of Clark’s songs – her music has recently been featured on The CW, MTV and ABC Family. Not bad for a self-taught guitarist.
Clark grew up in a musical family: her dad played in a polka band and her mom was an accordion prodigy. Clark has a 15-year background in dance and taught herself how to play guitar at age 15 after being inspired by Sarah McLachlan. Clearly Clark is an overachiever – I think the rest of us just belted out Sarah McLachlan on repeat after watching “City of Angels.”
Clark began attending open mic nights at Nietzsche’s soon after learning to play, which got the ball rolling. After touring nationally at 19, Clark started to consider a serious music career. She moved to Orange County, CA. after graduating college and released her first EP in 2006.
To top it all off, Clark has fantastic style. The singer/songwriter favors feminine dresses (think corseted tops and full skirts), wide headbands, oversized flowers and vintage jewelry. But she’s not a total girly-girl: she often dons leather jackets and studded heels and favors the color black.
Clark’s music is heartfelt and poetic and her fashion sense is super chic. This is one up-and-coming artist to keep on eye on. For more information on Stacy Clark, check out her Facebook page or her website, stacyclark.net
