Shopping with a stylist: Walking in an Urban wonderland
blog by Molly Hoeltke • December 19, 2012 @ 11:01am
Last-minute gift ideas, party outfits or just shopping for yourself are all reasons to stop by Urban Threads (736 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo) as soon as possible! Urban has been the center of Buffalo’s fashion-conscious for nearly 20 years, and they have really made a difference in our fashion community by exclusively offering high-quality brands ahead of the curve trends. Now is the best time of year to peruse their racks for the most highly-curated collection of clothing in the area! With the flawless taste of Maureen Pinkle, owner of Urban Threads by my side, we wanted to dress Katie Costello and Kathryn Przybyla from our Buffalo.com home office team and their friend, Joe Vu, in looks for holiday occasions across the spectrum from casual to dressy!

For Katie’s first look we went for a cozy and casual look while maintaining a sophisticated edge. We paired this adorable body con black-and-white sweater skirt in a small, graphic southwestern-inspired pattern with a black sweater by Volcom—which featured the same pattern in a larger size, broken up by solids in between. This look was completed by adding a flare of color in cherry-red with an adorable feminine bowler hat and houndstooth gloves and scarf.

For Kat’s first look, we dressed her in super slim-fit black-on-black riding pants and paired them with a stunning and flattering red and black Desigual sweater which featured beautiful soft knitwork in varying knit weights and techniques. We also went for a cozy and casual look here, but we dressed it up a bit by adding a super-chic, handmade leather clutch and stilettos.

For Joe‘s first look, we went with a major men’s focal piece in this amazing double-layered Desigual sweater. Featuring a subtle Nordic inspired print, inner layer zip and outer layer toggle button enclosures, this is a seriously stylish and functional sweater. No need for a coat! Paired with black skinny Levis and super-cool black lace-up boots, Joe’s cozy winter look is put together perfectly for a casual event.

For Katie’s second look we choose a sexy red little party dress by Wow Couture featuring a sequined bust and body con frame. Paired with a classic heel and simple teardrop earrings with rhinestones, this is a great look for those after-hours Christmas parties!

For Kat’s second look, we choose a retro pin-up style slim-fit dress by Bettie Page in a quirky red-and-black graphic print. Paired with a vintage-inspired crystal flower choker, this is the perfect transitional dressy look for any of your holiday party needs.

For Joe’s second look we wanted to go dressy without being formal, so we picked out a pair of dark wash slim cut straight leg Buffalo Jeans, and paired them with another amazing Desigual piece in this sexy men’s grey and black patchwork vest. On top we layered Joe with an ultra-warm and masculine Bench brand wool zip up sweater.
